When
to go?
The
region offers entertainment and interest all year round.
By
April,
the snow has melted from all but the high mountains. The weather is
ideal for more strenuous activities such as hiking and mountain biking
in the national park. It's often sunny, warm but not hot in the day and
cooler in the evenings.
By
the end of May,
the temperature has increased sufficiently to warrant opening the pool
- daytime temperatures can reach 30°C. There is a local "Feste"
in mid May, in San Venanzo. The first fireflies of the season usually
appear about now, and the poppies in the meadows are wonderful.
By
the end of June,
the temperature is such that eating out at night is a
delight.
In
July
and August,
the height of summer, temperatures range from 25-35°C in the
day - but this heat is never humid as the proximity to the mountains
ensures gentle breezes. The swimming pool is warm enough to
swim at night, under the stars. The fields of sunflowers are
in full bloom.
By
September,
the temperatures are cooling slightly - daytime temperatures of
25-28°C are not uncommon, but night-time temperatures dip. We
usually close the pool in mid September.
October and November mirror May
and April - cooler, fresher weather, for the more intrepid and active
among you. We have it on good authority that it is still possible to
swim outdoors at this time of year - and we could keep the pool open if
required.
Additionally,
there are many festivals and markets at this time of year to celebrate
the harvests - of everything from wine to truffles.
Christmas and New Year can be
sunny and warm - our neighbours were drinking champagne in the sunshine
last Christmas Day!
January, February and March are the real
winter months in this part of Italy - in 2005, 1.5m of snow fell in 5
days. This led to great skiing conditions not to mention the occasional
snowball fight!
